Orchestration Recipes Blocks feat. Divisimate 2

You can learn orchestration in a lot of different ways. With Orchestration Recipes Philip Johnston has found a unique approach by breaking down individual color combinations and structures and demonstrating their uses. It is a brilliant bite-sized and practical approach to orchestration with virtual instruments.

We're happy to share that for the latest entry, Orchestration Recipes Blocks, we have collaborated to provide dedicated Divisimate 2 presets for each orchestration covered in the course. This way you can listen to the examples, follow the course, study score examples and then immediately play and experience the orchestrations and voicings with your own input.

We love to see Divisimate being used to teach and learn orchestration in this way, and we are looking forward to future collaborations with Philip!

Here are two videos to introduce you to his work:

What are Blocks?

Blocks are classic orchestrations, extracted from the scores of master composers. Each block focuses on getting from simple sketches to these orchestrations - ready with over 80 custom scored examples, explanations, audio demos and Divisimate presets.

What does Divisimate do?

Divisimate 2 runs either as a standalone application or as a plugin within your DAW. It creates virtual midi ports to send unique parts to the different instruments in your template. By assigning and modifying musical voices to different instruments you can create playable orchestrations from your virtual instruments and record individual parts in real time.

Why this fits so well

Each Blocks orchestration comes with colour-coded diagrams, detailed notes, full scores, MIDI files, and multiple examples. The notes and diagrams are designed to make each orchestration reconstructible from logic rather than memory, so that eventually you carry it with you permanently. Divisimate lets you quickly access these orchestrations and play them in real time. Both to get them into your head, and to quickly put them to use.

Special Offers

Right now there is a 25% intro-discount for Blocks, with substantial discounts across all other Orchestration Recipes courses too. For anyone enrolled in the Blocks course there also is a special 20% discount for Divisimate 2. Both offers are valid until July 21st.

About presets and templates

There are two sets of presets included in the course. The first set "Universal" is designed for our Universal Orchestral Template 2.0. It follows the same mapping and bass instruments are mapped at sounding pitch.
Another set of presets is designed for dedicated templates provided by Vienna Symphonic Library for the Synchron Prime Orchestra. These templates are not the same as our Synchron Prime Template 2.0 and will be made available through a link within the course materials.

However it is absolutely possible to use the orchestrations with our Synchron Prime Template 2.0 or the Berlin Orchestra template. The only thing that will not correctly map onto these templates are the articulation triggers as the keyswitches differ slightly. But since Blocks is designed to work with legato articulations you will be able to play the voicings just the same. If you are using the SWAM Orchestra template, the Universal performance will yield the correct results for you.
